ATLectro shall return

ATLectro is going on hiatus, but we will return with regular updates and a new site design in the not-so-distant future. In the meantime, check out A Brooklyn Life Radio for weekly mix fixes from Bethany, Jon G., Adam Smith, and other special guests.

’till then,
ATLectro, signing off!

New mix: Apocalyptic Well-Being - mixed by Bethany

Apocalyptic Well Being - design by gabriel benzurSubscribe to the A Brooklyn Life Radio Podcast or visit A Brooklyn Life to download Apocalyptic Well-Being, featuring a laid back mix of classics from Raw Silk, edits by Greg Wilson, Chicago house classics by ESP and Rickster, dreamy disco from Hott City and chilly deep techno from Swedish masters Cari Lekebusch as Mr. James Barth, Jesper Dahlbäck and Sebastian Ahrenberg as Sunday Brunch, and Jesper Dahlbäck and John Dahlbäck together as Hugg and Pepp.

Every track from Fram’s Unnatural High to Mr. James Barth’s Music is the Key puts me in that dreamy state of well-being that the mix title refers to. Try not to let your disbelief that Alexander Robotnick’s Dark Side of the Spoon was actually written and recorded in 1983 disrupt your musical high, and keep an eye out for more Svek on the A Brooklyn Life Radio horizon - rumor has it that two of the DJs have an all-Svek series up their collective sleeves.

new mix: ATLien In My Pocket

design by gabriel benzurWhen my pals at A Brooklyn Life asked me to make a mix for their new podcast, I couldn’t resist mixing in a little nod to my dearly missed New Yorker and soon-to-be New Yorker friends. Maybe it’s a little cheesy, but certainly no worse than working our beloved hometown’s airport code into the title. Subscribe to the A Brooklyn Life Radio Podcast or visit A Brooklyn Life to download ATLien In My Pocket, featuring tracks and edits by Roboterwerke, Todd Terje, Vera, Azoto, Terrace, Faze Action, Idjut Boys, Lindstrøm, Lindbaek, and more.

ATLmix: new Jena Paradies and Jon G.

• Heady, elegant new mix from former Atlantan Jena Paradies, featuring a surprising mid-mix appearance by Salamandos, Legowelt’s dirty Chi-town alias:

• Fantasticly titled fun new electrohouse and party rock mix from Atlanta’s own Jon G. I wish any listeners luck keeping the first track from taking up permanent residence inside their heads:

Greg Wilson live at Electric Chair

credit to the edit album artInnovating DJ, pioneer of the ‘quick-cut’ edit method, music historian and producer Greg Wilson retired from DJing in 1984 after a career in clubs and radio that some credit with introducing electronic music to the UK. He has since returned to DJing and has released Credit to the Edit (tracklisting), an anthology of his favorite re-edits.

Credit to the Edit is available now on CD and Vinyl, along with I Was a Teenage DJ, a limited-edition 12″ containing four of Wilson’s recent cut-ups and disco edits.

update: Greg himself wrote ATLectro with a couple of corrections: the mixes above are not from APT in October as previously reported, and they were not recorded on a reel-to-reel. Rather, a reel-to-reel was used as medium in the making of the live set. I also took the liberty of copying the sets to ATLectro’s webserver. Thanks again to Colin Nagy for hosting them originally, and to Greg, looking forward to the APT set!

Mix, Mix & Megamix with Der Haack and Philippo

For those of you lucky enough to live somewhere with access to starry skies, I highly recommend going outside on a clear night, finding a comfortable place with an unobstructed view, and listening to Philippo’s Non Stop Canana Disco Audio Entertainment Thing megamix while gazing at the cosmos. For 14 minutes and 57 seconds you’ll swear you’ve died and are on a rocket making your way through the galaxy towards disco heaven.

Spaceship Crashing and Timetravelling are two excellent new mixes from Belgium’s Der Haack. Spaceship Crashing’s title is a bit fatalist, but the mix of house, space disco and italo from the likes of Lindstrom, Lime, Mr. Fingers and Common Factor is quite sultry and optimistic. Timetravelling is a rocking party mix of classic house, acid, and electronix by Putsch ‘79, Luke Vibert, Company B and more. The way he works the Joe Church acapella over Alden Tyrell’s Disco Lunar Module and Lolita Strap’s My Dance is magic!
